What Throughput Journal collects, the reason for each item, and the requests you can make. Last reviewed 18 September 2026.
What is collected
- Server logs. Our host records standard request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — for security, abuse prevention and diagnostics.
- Email addresses you give us voluntarily, when you contact us or subscribe to updates. We use them only for the purpose you gave them for.
- Analytics. We use two analytics tools. Ahrefs Web Analytics reports pages viewed, referrers, browser and device type, language, and country- and city-level location; Ahrefs states it is cookieless by default and does not store raw IP addresses. Google Analytics 4 runs only if you accept it in the notice shown on your first visit. It then sets two cookies, _ga and one beginning _ga_, which last up to two years and let Google recognise a returning browser. Decline or ignore the notice and no Google cookie is set and no request is made to Google. We do not sell personal data and we do not run advertising trackers.
- Material sent to the desk. Pitches, drafts and the data behind them — throughput figures, layouts, commissioning reports — are held with the correspondence, used only to assess and edit the piece, and not shared with the commercial side. Where a submission identifies a site or a customer, we confirm with you before anything is published.
Cookies
This site uses functional cookies needed to serve pages securely. If you leave a comment or log in as a contributor, WordPress sets session cookies. You can block cookies in your browser; the site will still work. If you accept Google Analytics, it sets the two cookies described above. Your choice is stored in this browser’s local storage, not in a cookie; clear this site’s data to be asked again.
Embedded third-party content
Pages may embed third-party content such as video players or social posts. Those providers set their own cookies and are governed by their own policies.
Requests you can make
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email privacy@throughputjournal.com and we will respond within 30 days.
